Rose Marie Kukich, 95 went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, 30 November, 2019 while residing in Poquoson, VA. Rose, affectionately known as Baba, was born on 13 October, 1924 in Clinton, Indiana to Robert and Angela Mirkovich (née Pucelj). She grew up and attended schools in Blanford and Clinton, Indiana. Rose met her husband Nick Kukich, a former US Marine Crops Officer and OSS Agent from Dillies Bottom, Ohio in Chicago. Married in 1947, Nick and Rose moved to Blanford, Indiana and subsequently to Claymont, Delaware where they retired. She moved to Poquoson, VA in 2015.
Claymont residents since 1957, Rose and Nick became model citizens of this Wilmington suburb. Rose worked as an Administrative Assistant at Sears and later All American Engineering. She was a long time member of the St Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church of Philadelphia, President of the Philadelphia Serbian Lodge, President of the Claymont Little League Women’s Auxiliary, 50+ year member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Claymont Volunteer Fire Company, VFW Auxiliary Post 5447, Serbian National Federation, Slovene National Benefit Society, Order of the Eastern Star, and founding member for the advocacy organization Dignity for the Aged to help the elderly who reside in nursing homes all over the United States.

Rose will be sorely missed by her family and by the multitude of friends throughout the United States and Europe that she cultivated over the years. She will be remembered for her strength of character, devotion to family, generosity as well as her Christmas cards and notes of encouragement; she epitomized the idea of giving. Rose traveled the US and the world not to sightsee but to be with friends and family. For many years she was a regular attendee at Serbian National Federation events where she enjoyed the company of many friends and family. She was the consummate hostess, cooking wonderful ethnic dishes and desserts for friends and family – there were no strangers at the Kukich table. In addition to cooking, Rose had many talents that she applied to a variety of hobbies including golf, sewing, crocheting, quilting and gardening.
Above all, Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a dedicated friend who was nourished by her faith and Serbian heritage and buoyed by the love of so many who will miss her deeply.
